How to set up two-factor authentication

Last updated

Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds a second check when you sign in. After your password, or after Google or Microsoft sign-in, Sendtric asks for a 6-digit code from your authenticator app or your email. Even if someone gets hold of your password, they can't get in without the code.

You can use one method at a time:

  • Authenticator app (recommended): a code from an app like Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, Authy or 1Password. It works without email and gives the strongest protection.
  • Email code: we email a code to your login address each time you sign in.

Turn on two-factor authentication

  1. Open Settings and expand Account settings.
  2. Under Two-factor authentication, choose Set up authenticator app or Set up email code.
  3. Follow the steps for your method below.
The Two-factor authentication section of Account settings with the Set up authenticator app and Set up email code options

With an authenticator app

  1. Open your authenticator app and scan the QR code. Or add an account manually and enter the key shown under the QR code (use Copy to copy it).
  2. Enter the 6-digit code your app shows for Sendtric.
  3. Click Turn on.

With an email code

  1. Click Send code. We email a 6-digit code to your login address. Check your spam folder if it doesn't arrive.
  2. Enter the code and click Turn on.

You'll see "Two-factor on". From your next sign-in, Sendtric asks for a code. Two-factor stays off until a code is confirmed, so if you close the window halfway, nothing changes.

Setup codes are valid for 10 minutes. If one expires, click Start again.

Change your method

  1. In Two-factor authentication, click Change method.
  2. Verify your current method: enter the code from your app, or send and enter an email code. Click Verify current method.
  3. Choose the new method and set it up as above, then click Confirm new method.

Your current method keeps working until the new one is confirmed, so you're never left without 2FA in between.

Turn it off

  1. In Two-factor authentication, click Turn off.
  2. Enter a code from your current method and click Turn off two-factor.

Good to know

  • Each authenticator code works once. If you've just used a code, wait for the next one before doing something else that needs a code.
  • Resetting your password doesn't turn 2FA off. After a reset, you sign in with your new password and then your code.
  • If you sign in with Google or Microsoft only, an authenticator app is the better choice: it adds a check that doesn't depend on that account.
