How to put one widget inside another
Last updated
Some widgets can contain other widgets. That lets you build things a single widget can't do alone, like a countdown timer whose design changes by segment, or a personalized image with a live forecast in it.
What can go inside what
| Container widget | What you can put inside it | How |
|---|---|---|
| Rule-based Images | Countdown timers, personalized images, weather widgets (as the image a rule shows) | Add Image, then choose the Timers, Image Personalization Widgets or Weather tab |
| Image Personalization | A rule-based image, and one weather widget (as layers) | Dynamic Image and Dynamic Weather in the left sidebar |
| Critical alerts | A rule-based image and a weather widget (as layers) | Dynamic Image and Dynamic Weather |
| Social proof counters | A rule-based image and a weather widget (as layers) | Dynamic Image and Dynamic Weather |
Examples
- A different timer per segment. Create two countdown timers with different designs, then a rule-based image that shows the first to VIP subscribers and the second to everyone else.
- A forecast in a travel email. Create a personalized image with the subscriber's name and destination, and add a Dynamic Weather layer showing that destination's forecast.
- A weather warning banner. Add a weather layer to a critical alert and switch the alert on when a storm is coming.
Things to know
- Create the inner widget first, then add it to the container.
- Rule-based images used inside another widget can only show uploaded images, not other widgets. If yours is missing from the list, check that every image in it is an uploaded image.
- One weather widget per personalized image.
- Merge tags from inner widgets are added to the container's code, so you only paste one piece of code into your email. Replace any placeholders as usual.
- Changes flow through. Edit the inner widget and the container picks up the change.
