How to Add Social Proof Counters to SendGrid

Add a live total of views or link clicks to a SendGrid Single Send or template, so recipients can see how popular an offer already is.

Show SendGrid recipients how many people have already looked at an offer.

A Sendtric social proof counter is an image with a number in it, such as "1,240 people viewed this item". The number is the all-time total of views of that image, or of clicks on a Sendtric link, and it is updated every time the email is opened.

Social proof counters need the Sendtric Power or Enterprise plan.

SendGrid reports opens and clicks to you in its stats, but nothing in the Design Editor shows those numbers to your readers. A counter turns that activity into something recipients can see.

What you can do with social proof counters in SendGrid

  • Product launches: a views counter on the hero product in a launch Single Send.
  • Event sign-ups: count clicks on the registration button with a Dynamic Link and show "people opened this" next to it.
  • Popular picks in Automations: a counter that keeps growing as more contacts move through the same nurture email.
  • Content roundups: show readers how many others have already checked out a guide or webinar recording.

How to add a social proof counter to SendGrid

Step 1: Create the counter

In Sendtric, open Social proof counters, click Create New and choose a preset like Product Shoppers or start with a blank canvas.

Step 2: Set what it counts

Select the Social Counter layer. Under Count Source, pick Views to count image loads, or Opens to count clicks on a Dynamic Link. Set a Minimum Count Threshold so a brand-new counter stays hidden until the number is worth showing, and an Initial Seed if you are carrying over an existing total.

In Social Proof Settings, set a Destination URL starting with https://. Sendtric creates a link that counts each click, then forwards to your page. Click Save.

Click Copy Code for the image. If you set up a Dynamic Link, also click Copy URL under Your Dynamic Link URL.

Step 5: Place both in SendGrid

Drag a Code module from the Build tab into your email, paste the image code into Edit Module HTML and click Update. Then select your Button module and paste the Dynamic Link URL as its link. The counter image itself isn't clickable.

Pick wording that matches what you count

The number is a running total of loads or clicks, not unique people and not people reading right now. Repeat opens count again. Wording such as "1,240 views" or "1,240 people opened this" stays accurate.

You can change the destination later

The Dynamic Link's destination can be updated in Sendtric after the SendGrid email is sent, which helps if a product page moves or sells out.

SendGrid Social Proof Counter FAQ

Which plan do I need?

Power or Enterprise. On other plans, Sendtric shows a note that counters are a Power feature. See pricing.

Does the number update while someone reads the email?

No. It is fixed at the moment of opening. New activity shows up within a minute or two, so the next open shows a higher number.

How do I check the counter is working before sending?

Send a SendGrid test, open it and click the button once. Reopen the email a couple of minutes later: the number in the counter should have gone up.

Can I reuse one counter in several SendGrid emails?

Yes. Every email that uses the same counter adds to the same total, which suits a running campaign. Create a separate counter if you want separate numbers.
